White Flowers (translation attempt of "Vellai Pookal" )

the following is my humble translation of the A.R.Rahman - Vairamuthu classic, "Vellai Pookal", which i felt was very appropriate to be revisited, as the world awakens to a new year 2007.

im no way equipped to translate verses of some one as Vairamuthu, so kindly forgive any short comings. i have given my shot in trying to convey the feel of the song to non-tamil readers. for the original lyrics and song download, pls visit my other blog . my best wishes to everyone for a dashing smashing new year!

White Flowers..

let the awakening earth's peace age unfurl
as white flowers bloom world over

let buds to blossom be gently awaken
as the land is bathed in golden sun

let a sleeping child arise
to the loving mother's caress

let the morning world stir to life
to the innocent child's warm smile

(let the awakening...)

melody of the wind, music of the raindrops
can they bring more joy than blissful silence?

can a million melodies, or verses strewn by a poet
more powerfully convey than a slipping tear drop?

(let the awakening...)

where a child gazes his tiny eyes upon
bewitch the sky there, oh lovely moon!

where humanity's sanity or unity dies
enthrall there, oh nightingale of peace!

(let the awakening...)
